Today, one of my students did an amazing job reviewing a text with her peer. The student was having a little trouble with the vocabulary words in the text, as well as fluency. My student read the text out-loud with her peer, and then he read the text to her. She helped him with pronunciation and word meanings. I monitored the peers across the table while I worked one on one with another student. I appreciate my student so much for her excellence and dedication to helping her classmate succeed in Reading class!

Today 7th grade students took the WriteScore Assessment. This computerized assessment allows students to read about a topic, and then respond to questions/prompts in writing. Wishing all of my students great success on this writing test!
Today students enjoyed an activity called Speed Dating the Book. The purpose of this activity is to expose our students to new book titles and new genres from our Library Learning Commons. Ms. LaVigne collaborated with Smitha's Media Specialist, Mrs. Davis, to pick out high-interest books within a range of Lexile levels. Students were given a reading log that asked them to rate the book, list the genre, and explain why/why not they thought the book was interesting or not. Out of these books, students chose one or two books that they committed to reading.
We Speed Date the book twice a year, and students always seem to enjoy this activity! Hello Parents! Please be aware that report cards are being sent home today. Please review all items that are sent home in the Manila folder. All folders should be signed by a parent, and returned to school on Monday with your student.
Also, all students received an Academic Alert Checklist in their folder. This Checklist is used to let you know if your student is a Retention Candidate based on their semester grades. Please review and sign this Checklist carefully to indicate that you understand the criteria for students passing or failing a grade level. Thanks! |
