This week has been really, really busy, for students and teachers. Because of our shortened schedules we have had to make some changes with our regular lessons. I will be very happy when Monday comes, and we get back to our regular schedule! I'm sure students will be relieved, and happy to be finished with student-led conferences.
This week I have been very proud of the way some of my students have conducted their conferences. They took responsibility for their grades, and talked to their parents about the type of support they need at home. We are looking forward to finishing the semester strong! Parents, please make sure that you update and/or return the following forms:

On Monday, 6th grade students will be continuing our discussion and learning about young people who have changed the world. Our next young activist that we will be learning about is Malala Yousavzai. In my opinion, Malala is one of the bravest people that has ever lived! Malala is the young Pakistani woman who was targeted and attacked by the Taliban because she spoke out fearlessly about the rights of girls to get an education. Malala survived an attempted assignation on life, defying the odds, surviving a gun shot to the head and neck. When she recovered she went on to lead the charge for girls and women's rights all across the world. We are fortunate to have several copies of her book, I am Malala in our READ 180 classroom library. To learn more about Malala and her amazing life, watch the attached video. |
