A few other 6th grade teachers, as well as Mrs. Speir, our Media Specialist also attended the technology conference and joined in on the fun! I was blown away at all of the new and innovative technologies that are currently available to educators. I learned about many great resources, such as Nearpod, Everfi, and BrainPop! We currently use BrainPop in our classroom, but I learned there is soooo much more we can do with this fun resource to extend our learning! I look forward to sharing more about this with my students! Recently, Ms. LaVigne did a dramatic reading of one of Edgar Allen Poe's most popular story, The Tell-Tale Heart. Students read the story in the dark, using flashlights to light their papers. Ms. LaVigne played scary music in the background to add to the fun! Students enjoyed the dramatics!
7th grade students have been studying the works of Edgar Allen Poe, the master of the scary story! Poe is most known for his popular titles such as, The Fall of the House of Usher, the Tell-Tale Heart, and The Raven. We have been learning to identify story elements like, theme, setting, characters and plot. Students are also learning about the different types of conflict that exist in literature. 6th grade students have been learning about sequence of events and transitional words. Parents can help to support their students by making sure they have reading materials available to them at all times. I encourage all parents to require their child to bring a library book home from school. Ask your child about what they are reading. Doing this will help them remember and practice key transitional words and phrases such as, at first, then, after, next and finally.
